Me Time (for Mommy!)
Tuesday, 9. February 2010
During the last year of school, as an expecting Mommy to one and wife to Dear Husband also in school overtime, time was scarce. But I’d have gone crazy doing nothing for myself. It was during this time that I caught the quilting bug. And actually created four quilt tops (small), two completed baby blankets, and three Christmas stockings!
You can do what you love, too, and find time to pamper yourself each day. Here’s how.
Hobbies: What are the smallest tasks you can cut your hobbies into? Almost any project can be cut into a series of ‘tasks’ of twenty minutes or less. 20 minutes a day equals 120 hours a year.
For quilting: selecting fabrics (which I’ve found actually works best in a short period of time, since it prevents you from second guessing yourself), cutting strips for one color at a time, piecing one square at a time, and even quilting one square or strip at a time. The smaller and simpler the project, the easier it is to do. Some sewing/quilting projects that take less than three hours total: roll-up cloth pencil case, bag, cup coasters or table mats, a super simple baby blanket with very simple machine quilting, or a page to a quiet book. This great blog shows a wonderful quiet book the author made (and is selling e-patterns to) with removable pages.
Think of something you would like to do and cut it into small pieces. You can find 20 minutes once a day, if determined. Your sanity is worth it!
Pamper yourself: Do something small for yourself each day. You can do something that takes five minutes or less and do it guilt-free! Take two minutes and rummage through your jewelery to find a nice necklace and earrings to wear. Check out the newest addition to your favorite comic strip online. Read my blog (just kidding).
My self-pamper today: Throw the pillows in the dryer for really fluffy, nice smelling pillows in bed tonight. Total time: 30 seconds (15 to chuck them out, 15 to take them out and put them away). Sometimes the most important thing is knowing you did it for you.
